Screening Notes for The Executioner's Face

total running time: 2 minutes 45 seconds

The Executioner's Face is an impressionistic reaction to the recent executions by the Federal Government of the United States. Mass media representations that reflect violence in our culture are contrasted with iconic idealized images. No details or specifics are given. There is no voice over. The piece is not dependent on language. One objective was to create a work that could be equally relevant outside of the United States.

Regardless of one's opinion on the Death Penalty, the recent Federal execution brought numerous issues into focus. We The People pulled the switch. The title is taken from A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall by Bob Dylan in the 1963 album titled The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. The critical line is this: The Executioner's Face is Always Well Hidden
